"My drink is probably the world's first of its kind," said 74-year-old Yokitomo Shimotai, who was a coffee shop owner in Aomori Prefecture. "It contains no caffeine so it's good for those who would like to drink coffee at night or pregnant women."

「我的饮料可能是世界首例。」七十四岁的 Yokitomo Shimotai ,过去是青森县的咖啡店老闆,他说,「饮料不含咖啡因,孕妇或者夜晚想来杯咖啡的人,都可以享用。」

Shimotai says that the coffee is the result of a cooking blunder. 30 years ago, he burned the steak and garlic while waiting tables. "Intrigued by thescorched garlic's aroma, hemashed it up with a spoon and mixed it with hot water. The resulting drink looked and tasted a lot like coffee. Making a mental note of his discovery, Yokimoto carried on with his job, and only started researching garlic coffee again after he retired."— Oddity Central

Shimotai 说,大蒜咖啡源自于一次做菜的失误。三十年前,他在招待客人时,不小心把牛排和大蒜烧焦。美国 Oddity Central 网站报导,「他受到大蒜的焦香味吸引,用勺子把大蒜捣碎,然后混合热水。混合出的饮料外观和味道都很像咖啡。当时他只把这点发现记在心里,直到退休后才开始研究大蒜咖啡。」

"Committed to turning his bizarre drink into a commercial product, Yokitomo Shimotai spent years optimizing the formula, and about five years ago, he finally achieved a result he was satisfied with. To make hissoluble garlic grounds, he roasts the cloves in an electric oven, and, after they'vecooled off, smashes them into fine particles and packs them in dripbags."

「一心想将这种奇特饮料变成商品的 Shimotai,花费数年时间优化配方。大约五年前,终于製作出自己满意的配方。为了做出可溶解的大蒜泥,他以烤箱烘烤蒜瓣,冷却之后,将蒜瓣捣成小颗粒,然后放入挂耳包中。」

"Thebitterness of burned garlic apparently helps create the coffee-like flavor," says Shimotai. He later acquired a patent on this method in 2015 and started a workshop in Iwate Prefecture.

Shimotai 说,烧焦大蒜的苦味使口感更接近咖啡。不久后,他为研製方法申请到专利,并在岩手县开始了工作坊。

Shimotai claims that his garlic coffee only gives off the aroma of roasted garlic, and doesn't cause bad breath, since the garlic is thoroughly cooked. If you are okay with the smell, the drink does taste a lot like actual coffee.

Shimotai 声称他的大蒜咖啡只散发烤大蒜的香气,但不会造成口臭,因为大蒜已充分烘烤过。如果可以接受气味,那幺饮料的味道确实很像真正的咖啡。
